Getting to Providence / The Department from Boston

The Brown CS department is located at 115 Waterman St, Providence, RI 02906.

By Train

You can take the Northeast Regional Amtrak train from Back Bay or South Station to Providence. See details here. The train takes about 30 minutes each way and costs about $70 round-trip. You can also take the Acela though it doesn’t really save you much time between Boston and Providence as compared to the Northeast Regional.

You can also take the Providence/Stoughton commuter rail line from Back Bay or South Station to Providence. See details here. The train takes about an hour each way and costs about $25 round-trip.

The Brown CS department is about a 20 minute (uphill) walk or 5 minute drive/Uber from the Providence train station.

By Car

Driving takes about an hour. There is a visitor parking lot at Brown, metered parking around the building and you can generally find free parking a few blocks east of the computer science department (along e.g. Governor Street). The city of Providence does not allow you to park overnight unless you pay $100 for a car registered in Providence or $200 for a car registered outside of Providence and, in theory, will ticket you if you park overnight in free residential parking.
